Alright, fashionistas, we need to help a girl in a crisis... URGENTLY.
We know the 'Fashion Crisis' posts only go up on Saturday but this girl has a deadline to meet.
Even if you have a tiny suggestion, comment please! :)
(By the way, our customary 'Update post' is still below this one. Read that one too. Thanks!)
I am a kind of girl who wear jeans and shirts and heels/ flip flop. I'm with a very famous local band who's going to perform on Anugerah Bintang Popular this coming 30th March. They also need to walk on the red carpet for the event. I tried not to involve with this red carpet thinging. But the problem is, since I'm the gf of the band's vocalist, he asked me to walk with him on the red carpet.
The theme for the event is BATIK. I was like, 'Oh my goodness!' I cant imagine myself wearing dress (batik), heels, with make up, and walk down the red carpet in front of thousands people.
Can u please help me, what kind of evening dress shud I wear, where I can get it, or mebi you can come out with dress at reasonable price since your blog is very well known among all on9 boutique. Or mebi its not very necessary for me to wear batik dress since its only applied to the stars, not me! Mebi black dress shud be ok?
Okay, girls. You know the drill :)

hey babe.. Mischka here..
a nice batik dress with a nice cut are quite hard to find and batik's are kinda expensive as well. here's a few options i have for you:
-If you really wanna go with a Batik dress and i do not know your budget yet, i have seen some beautiful, nice cut and design batik dress. it's by the designer "Bill Keith". I'm not sure where he has a shop right now (i know he used to have one at 1 utama, not sure if its still there)
-But i found his homepage, check it out at www.billkeith.com.my
-If you can't find a nice batik dress, i do suggest with going with a gorgeous black dress, i know it isn't the theme, but can u imagine everyone in batik at that event? the colours would blind me, haha.. besides it would be a way to make you stand out.
-But if your not up to standing out, instead of buying a dress that is really batik. find a nice coloured dress that almost looks like batik. i'm thinkin a gorgeous, colourful, flow-y, chiffon kinda dress.
In the mean, we'll be keeping a look out for you on dresses. Hope i've helped you a bit.
Simply,
Mischka

Westwood here.
My suggestion is to NOT wear batik.
Everybody is going to be in batik. I know it's our country's pride and joy but too much is too much.
You can still stick to the theme even if you aren't going to wear a batik dress. You can always carry a bag/clutch that's made out of batik material. I think I've seen something like that before. But you do get me, right? Accesorise yourself with batik, not wear it.
A black dress is awesome but if you aren't up for dresses, a nice black pantsuit would also make you stand out :) And it's still formal and decent.
I also agree with Mischka's last suggestion. The 'chiffon, flowy' thing.
I'll be keeping my eyes open for you too :)
Also, do let us know if you've got anything specific in mind about the outfit or the shoes. That may give us a direction with our searching :)
Batik on its own stands out almost with so much more than just floral and traditional; overtly drown with prints and colors.
Mischka and Westwood have given the green light in how to jazz your night and at the same time turning heads on the red carpet; standing out from the ordinary crowds.
I have tried a batik fan, those traditional once as I wore an elegant zip up dress thats is watercolor lime green with light prints of twirls and leaves on it. I wore my hair up with beaded chopstick and wore a simple white pointy. TO be pretentious, I held my fan open up and fan myself as thou it was hot just so to make it possible to brig out the essential of the theme.
If you had to wear a black dress, go plain on it and perhaps add some flavors like a pretty wrap around that is batik?
White long pants with kaftan blouse in Batik designs?
If yo uare bold enough, do hanna?? that would be found and you will out-stand the rest for sure.
Or a plain black straight cut with butterfly motives top??
It may also involves some head accessories like hmm not sure what they call them but I have a girlfriend who loves wrapping up her head with a nice thin chiffon material head scarf to create the hippie look.
Sounds like so much fun!! Good luck and all the best in choosing your outfits. Try hunting for this in several boutiques in sg. wang, a lil pricey but worth the look to die for. Try BSC, upstairs. Or even Gardens, the place where all designers have a lil spot of their own in displaying their customised clothings.
Good luck babay:)

well, i gave it some thought.
and i know mischka and westwood prefer the black dress, but i think if ur really going in that direction at least have something batik inspired about ur outfit.
there's more annoying than throwing a theme party and having those few people who choose not to play along.it just makes them seem a bit unwilling to co-operate.someone planned long and hard for this event,so i think it's better to not let such good planning go to waste.
as for what to wear, head to toe batik is overwhelming so i suggest maybe a batik top or a batik bottom, but not batik head to toe.or maybe even a batik clutch with a dress around the same colour to match? i will look around though.
as for the makeup, go natural. and keep ur palette consisting of gold, and browns ( works for all skin tones ).it's always best.
have fun walking down the red carpet, i know i would :)
less is more,

Hi babe,
Well, batik is normally pricey and most of the batik in malaysia is quite simple in the designs.
Well, I actually own a Balinese Batik dress that I bought all the way from Bali. It is brand new ofcourse, I have my own online boutique, so i recommend that u have a look. It is called Balinese Batik Dress. It is selling at only RM 38. It has lots of details on the print. Well, yes. It is printed on and not genuinely a batik dress. But its a 1 night dress right? Also it has glitters around the designs. And im sure it will look stunning on the red carpet. Because I believe that this dress is the only one in Malaysia.
So, visit my online shop at
www.dressupdolls.blogspot.com
I hope to hear from u soon =)
Hi there! I may not be a fashion expert but I'll give my opinion and let u think about it alrite? =)
If you're not into dresses, there's a kind of big scarf/shawl usually in batik prints which u can some how wrap and tie around your body into a long top. Almost like a halter and its really sexy. Pair it with skinnies and pumps and i think it looks great.
Also, do visit this link from Dressing Lab and have a look: http://dressinglab.blogspot.com/2008/03/batik-tube-dress.html
Tube batik dress in two different colours. I bought the black one and I loved it, especially the sweetheart neckline. Great when paired with a clincher. Though its made of cotton and smocked at the back and may look quite casual. But its up to u too choose. =)
That's all for my opinions. I hope it helps and good luck in finding your perfect outfit for that night! Enjoy yourself! =)
I totally agree wit the idea of you going in something simple but accessorize yourself with a batik shawl or headscarf. A sexy and elegant black dress throwing in a batik shawl to keep it mystery at the same time will do a great job i think...
But do discuss with your bf as to what he's wearing so both of you will look more matching to each other, not on completely different frequency!!
Mydressroom from Bangsar has nice pretty dresses that you could try.. If you're not going for too sexy dresses, you could always throw in a quarter legging and high wedges to spice up your look. Providing that your dress is at the short length. It's a complete nono to wear leggings with long dress at the same time..
If your bf is in the band, i think it'll be cool if you dress up more hippy style rather than elegant sexy type..
Cheers darlz!!
