Fashion Crisis!

This week we have a 'fashion crisis' from a reader, which I think some may have the same
problem out there. Do help her and give her the advice that she needs.

Fashion Crisis
Hie girls. Really appreciate your time and brain juice to help me figure this one out.

You see, recently my boyfriend had a conversation with one of his (senior) friend.
She's a really great girl, and a great friend as well.
Cuz (according to his claims) she'd sacrifice her wardrobe to oblige to her boyfriends wants.
He (her bf) wanted her to wear as conservative as possible.

And so.. My boyfriend has been influenced and now he's askin me to be more conservative about my outfits. But the major problem is that most of my outfits are either shoulder-bearing, back bearing, or tubes.

Now I'm facing a challenge on how to wear my clothes and still look chiq in them "covered up".
I've jackets, cardigans and a shawl in my fav colour. But jackets and cardis are too heat-confining for me. The lecture halls at where I'm studying is kinda stuffy & hot at times.
So.. There's that problem, my shawls being a doll.. but I can't wear it EVERYTIME rite?
I'm at your mercy girls.

Thanks.

Muaxsxsxsxx,
~meLLie~

hey babe.
I'm not much of fashion chica to give you le best tool. I gave it a thought bout how to be a lil conservative but still look as chic and not sweating out under the glaring heat.

Tube tops go well with jeans yea.Hand around vest. Vest is still in now. It goes with almost anything. Or you may jazz it up alil with a scarf, chiffons material.

Jackets is a big no no for you as you were saying how stuffy it is in college. wata bout those that hang loosely on ya??

shawl is okay but it can make a person a lil mature. however, try it with string tops and jeans?? dresses??

hope it helps a tad bit babe:)
best of luck.

heyy mellie,

i'm not a college/uni student so i dont know how stuffy lecture halls can get but heres what i can whip up..

try layering your clothes. since you have shoulder-bearing tops, you could wear like a thin tank top inside so its not too revealing, but still okay. and not too hot.

you could also get those cropped short sleeved jackets to wear over your tubes and tanks. those arent hot. or you could go to blook! sometimes you can find really cute full lace tops you can wear over your tank tops. those arent stuffy. you practically don't notice the extra layer but your boyfriend will :D or pop over to really, really affordable stores like FOS and grab a few tees! its always sensible to have a few polo tops and roundneck tshits/tops with cute designs on.

also, you could find a button up long sleeved or short sleeved shirt so wear over your tube/whatever but if its stuffy then you dont have to button it up! you could also try going to shops like Wh, zara, mng, or whatever shop you fancy to get a three quarter sleeved top. some of these tops are pretty low cut so it doesnt make you feel all cooped up and totally covered up.

shawls are a bit of a hassle, i'm guessing especially in college/uni cos you have books to carry and a campus to run around in

you dont have to compromise your wardrobe to please your boyfriend, but maybe you could spend a bit and buy a few tops that arent revealing just to show your boyfriend that youre making an effort and maybe he'll let you wear a few revealing tops every now and then. ;) just don't go over the line!

hope that helped.

Hey dear :)
Westwood here.

As cover ups, I'd say to wear nice skinny cardigans. Long ones, cropped ones, anything. As long as they don't hang loose and make you look frumpy, it's okay. Show off the figure along with the top you're wearing underneath. Try not to wear something over that just covers everything up :)
Do not ever wear jackets that look like windbreakers! Oh my Lord. One cannot imagine the horror.
Also, if you do not want to wear anything hot to cover, you can always look for cardigans that aren't warm. I've seen a few thin ones and they really wrap round your body without adding on the heat. So that's great :)

Shawls are great to cover up cause they're easy to take off too but sometimes, they also make one look older. That's my opinion, of course, and it really depends on what sort of shawls you wear. :) Just make sure the shawl colour doesn't clash with your top (I've seen a few... horrible)

However if you don't wanna wear cardigans or shawls or whatever, consider buying some fitting tops with sleeves. :) Short sleeves.. because your lecture hall is stuffy, right?

Another thing, always remember colour coordination! The colours can determine the level of chic-ness. If you've got a very colourful wardrobe, consider getting a black or white cardigan or whatever else. Or if your wardrobe is monochromatic, get a coloured cardigan. That way, you can always match the cardigan with any top without much problems.
I particularly do not agree with anything pastel.. but that's a very personal opinion :)

But, if you really do not wanna cover up and you still wanna wear your shoulder-bearing tops the way you used to, I suggest talking to the boy and tell him that you won't compromise! LOL!
But you don't have to show lots of skin to look chic.. sometimes, covering up makes one look elegant and quite a tease ;)

The girls above also gave some good comments :D
Always remember to NOT follow every single thing someone tells you :) Just work with what you like and what your style is.

Love, Westwood :)

In my opionion,
tubes go well with jeans,
or you can try matching it with a scarf/shawl too.

The combi pretty much works,
and it won't be so hot as compared to a cardigan or smth (:

hey there. Mischka here.

i understand your prob, i have gone through the same thing. lol.

and from what i have learnt, wearing less revealing clothes, won't make you look or feel any less sexy or stylish.

even though tank tops, tube tops, and spaghetti straps are great.. by knowing the right way to cover up, you can still look great!

and in my opinion, by wearing less revealing clothes and knowing how to accesssorize and working it, it will go a long way and you would even make you look more chiq.

instead of shawls, cardi and jackets, try fitted long sleeved or 3/4 sleeved tops. get long V-Neck sleeved tops or maybe even off-shouldered long sleeved tops. and get them fitted so you can still show off your body without bearing too much.

i have emailed you some pictures for better examples of what i mean and they are just some examples of some celebs who i think don't wear too revealing and still manages to look hot!

simply,
mischka

i actually used to be a big fan of tube tops and spagetti straps, but eventually it got to a point when i realized i loved all sorts of clothes :)

i learnt alot from college, it can get cold there.

1.cardigans- love them.the skinny ones are best.they still flatter.
2.fitting tops with sleeves- why not just look for decent flattering tops?
3.wraps- (cardigans without buttons, usually wrapped around instead of buttoned)

but what is really comes down to, is it's the person that makes the outfit and not the other way around.

i have to say, a boyfriend is a great thing to have.but when a boyfriend tries to change u for his own benefit he's got to go.
a boy should never make u compromise who u are.
u make ur own rules.

if u are comfortable with the changes, then by all means go right ahead :)

less is more,
